Mastering the Maze: A guide to Special Situations Finance | Part 1 Introduction to Hermes Capital
Series Introduction
Welcome to the first entry of our five-part series on Mastering the Maze: A Guide to Special Situations Finance. Through these articles, we aim to demystify the world of special situations financing and showcase how Hermes Capital uniquely supports SMEs (Small Medium Enterprise). This journey begins with our story, mission, and the foundational concept of our work.
The Genesis of Hermes Capital
Founded in 2010, Hermes Capital emerged from a blend of commercial finance and hands-on business growth expertise. Our founders noticed a significant gap in the market: a disconnect between investors ready to support small businesses and SMEs struggling to find accessible, asset-secured financing. Bridging this gap, Hermes Capital has become a conduit for mutual success, leveraging our Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) to pool investor funds, originate, and manage bespoke SME credit facilities.
Mission-Driven Financing
Our mission is twofold. First, we aim to empower investors by offering a secure, profitable avenue to invest in the SME sector. Second, we strive to support small businesses investees in navigating the complex financial landscape, offering them a lifeline when traditional banking institutions might not. By focusing on appropriately structured and managed credit facilities we create investment opportunities with a balanced risk and reward model to make an exclusive pool of capital available for SMEs in special situations that would otherwise not be available.
Demystifying Special Situations
“Special situations” might sound like financial jargon, but it’s at the heart of what we do. These are scenarios where businesses find themselves in need of funding but are unable to access it through conventional channels. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including distress, rapid growth, or undergoing mergers and acquisitions. In essence, we provide a financial lifeline when it’s needed most, looking beyond traditional metrics to secure a brighter future for these enterprises.
The Intersection of Investment and Enterprise
Hermes Capital stands at the intersection of investment and enterprise, facilitating growth and stability in uncertain times. As we progress through this series, we’ll delve deeper into our unique approach, success stories, and the broader implications of our work on the Australian SME landscape.
Stay tuned for our next post, where we’ll explore the unique value proposition of Hermes Capital, highlighting our agility in decision-making and our depth of industry expertise.
